The Writing’s On The Wall: All Four Stars

The Writing’s On The Wall is a regular feature on Pop! Goes The Reader in which I create desktop wallpapers inspired by some of my favourite novels.

In case you missed it last week, I reviewed Tara Dairman’s irresistible 2014 debut, All Four Stars (You can read said review here). There’s no doubt that this enchanting middle grade novel immediately stood out amongst the slew books I had read thus far this year, and I knew almost immediately that I wanted to make a desktop wallpaper in its honour. Even better, given the novel’s younger target audience, I felt a little more free to experiment with vibrant pops of colour and a more spirited, playful concept. Also: Macarons! Now I can only hope that I’ve managed to capture even a little of the effervescent joy that this novel embodies.

Meet Gladys Gatsby: New York’s toughest restaurant critic. (Just don’t tell anyone that she’s in sixth grade.)

Gladys Gatsby has been cooking gourmet dishes since the age of seven, only her fast-food-loving parents have no idea! Now she’s eleven, and after a crème brûlée accident (just a small fire), Gladys is cut off from the kitchen (and her allowance). She’s devastated but soon finds just the right opportunity to pay her parents back when she’s mistakenly contacted to write a restaurant review for one of the largest newspapers in the world.

But in order to meet her deadline and keep her dream job, Gladys must cook her way into the heart of her sixth-grade archenemy and sneak into New York City—all while keeping her identity a secret! Easy as pie, right?

I would like to say a big ‘thank you’ to YenzArtHaut, Collective Creation and Rustic Digital Paper whose clipart I purchased, edited and used in the creation of this wallpaper!

What book would you like to see made into a desktop wallpaper next? Let me know in the comments – I would love to hear from you!

Hi! I’m Jen! I’m a thirty-something introvert who loves nothing more than the cozy comfort of home and snuggling my two rescue cats, Pepper and Pancakes. I also enjoy running, jigsaw puzzles, baking and everything Disney. Few things bring me more joy than helping a reader find the right book for them!
