After breaking up with her bad-news boyfriend, Reagan O’Neill is ready to leave her rebellious ways behind…and her best friend, country superstar Lilah Montgomery, is nursing a broken heart of her own. Fortunately, Lilah’s 24-city tour is about to kick off, offering a perfect opportunity for a girls-only summer of break-up ballads and healing hearts. But when Matt Finch joins the tour as its opening act, his boy-next-door charm proves difficult for Reagan to resist, despite her vow to live a drama-free existence. This summer, Reagan and Lilah will navigate the ups and downs of fame and friendship as they come to see that giving your heart to the right person is always a risk worth taking. A fresh new voice in contemporary romance, Emery Lord’s gorgeous writing hits all the right notes.
As the temperatures continue to dip, the snow continues to fall, and we endure what increasingly appears to be a never-ending winter, I find it helps to cast my mind ahead to the future in order to remain positive (and motivate myself to continue to get out of bed each morning). And when I begin to think about spring and summer and what these seasons might have in store, I inevitably find myself ruminating about what I’ll be reading as well. There are certain authors like Jessi Kirby and Morgan Matson whose work absolutely typify summer for me, and I have high hopes that Emery Lord will soon join this list of distinguished writers. My friend, Ginger at GReads! recently finished reading an ARC of Lord’s Open Road Summer and had nothing but absolutely glowing things to say about it, (Don’t believe me? Click Here!), and if there’s one person whose opinion I trust implicitly, it’s Ginger’s. Plus, just look at the synopsis for this novel: Female friendship, a road trip and the music industry? I’m sold! Is it April 15th yet?

I still have heart-eyes when I look at this book. I loved it SO MUCH. Jen, as I told you before, I know it’s going to be a big hit for you, too. It has all the elements of a summery-goodness YA + there is depth and emotion (a lot like Kirby & Matson) that gives this story a good, solid balance.

I loved Jessi Kirby’s Golden and I hope to continue to read more of her works. Open Road Summer by Emery Lord sounds like a great read and to be combined in the same sentence as Jessi Kirby is a definite plus in my opinion.
I really like friendship novels since I’ve had a lot of incredibly nice friendships that helped define me as a person and thinking about summer sounds so good right now when it’s cold!
