Day One is the second book in the Day Zero Duology and the conclusion of the series. The book picks up right where the first one left off with teen coder, Jinx Marshall, and her stepsister, student journalist, MacKenna, left to pick up the pieces of their lives and rescue their little brother, Charles. I really had a blast writing the book. I was able to incorporate a few more futuristic elements — like an ultra-advanced submarine and secret base at the bottom of the ocean — that were fun to write and will hopefully be fun for readers as well.

Last year, the amazing design team at Inkyard, including Kathleen Oudit and Elita Sidiropoulou, sent me a series of four different cover options. I immediately fell in love with this one! I love the cool color palette and the fact that it features a lighthouse (an important setting in the book). I’m hoping that everyone else will love it as much as I do and join me for the conclusion of Jinx and MacKenna’s story.

RULE ONE: THOSE WHO PANIC DON’T SURVIVE

IT’S AS TRUE NOW AS IT WAS THE DAY OUR WORLD EXPLODED INTO CHAOS

Jinx
Three months ago, all I wanted was to stay up late playing video games and pretending the world was fine. With my parents’ role in a massive political conspiracy exposed, I ended up on the run, desperate to rescue my little brother, Charles, from the clutches of The Opposition. I used to hate my father’s obsession with disaster prepping. But as I fight my way across a war-torn country and into a secret military research facility with only my stepsister to count on, I realize that following Dr. Doomsday’s Guide for Ultimate Survival might be our only hope of surviving to see Charles again.

MacKenna
Once, I had it all. The right backstory. The right qualifications. But my life as a student journalist was destroyed forever in the explosions that triggered the country’s meltdown. Now I’m determined to help Jinx get our little brother, Charles, back. But we also have to find our own reasons to survive. Somehow, I’ve become the first reporter of the new civil war. In a world where your story is your ultimate weapon, I have to become the toughest freedom fighter of all.

As an extra, exciting bonus, Kelly has been kind enough to offer one lucky reader the opportunity to win a finished copy of Day One!
