Happy Friday, everyone! Well, we made it to the end of another week, and I can think of no better way to celebrate than in sharing an exclusive cover reveal for one of my most highly-anticipated Fall 2018 YA releases! Today on Pop! Goes The Reader I’m thrilled to welcome my friend and author, Miranda Asebedo, as we prepare to share the cover and inspiration behind Miranda’s debut, The Deepest Roots. Coming to a bookstore and library near you September 18th 2018 from HarperTeen, The Deepest Roots tells the story of a very special town and three very special girls – Rome, Lux, and Mercy. Cottonwood Hollow, Kansas has always been different, responsible for imbuing every one of its female residents with a special talent, and best friends Rome, Lux, and Mercy are no exception. As the synopsis suggests, however, there is a great deal more to Cottonwood Hollow than initially meets the eye, and I for one can’t wait to discover all of its secrets! The cover of The Deepest Roots was designed by Jenna Stempel-Lobell with accompanying art by La Scarlatte. Please read on to learn more about The Deepest Roots, including an exclusive cover reveal, a special note from the author about the novel’s origins and inspiration and a chance to win a signed, advance reader copy of the novel from Miranda Asebedo!
About Miranda Asebedo
Miranda Asebedo was born and raised in rural Kansas with a love of fast cars, open skies, and books. She carried that love of books to college, where she got her B.A. and M.A. in English, with an emphasis in Creative Writing and Literature. A Seaton Fellowship recipient, her short fiction has appeared in Kansas Voices, Touchstone, and Midway Journal.
Miranda still lives on the prairie today with her husband, two kids, and a majestic bulldog named Princess Jellybean. If Miranda’s not writing or reading, she’s most likely convinced everyone to load up in the family muscle car and hit the road. Author photo by Alexis Pultz.
We are bound to each other, perhaps not by our brightest moments, but by our darkest.
If I had to pick one line from The Deepest Roots that sums up the entire story, this would be it.
Confidences between friends are sacred, whether they are as simple as crushes on cute neighbors or as complicated as a broken heart. I believe this is one of the most precious qualities of friendship. A true friend is one to whom you can reveal your murkiest parts and know that you are accepted anyway. And sometimes a friend must be the one to decide when a secret is so dangerous that it can’t be kept. This situation is where Rome, Lux, and Mercy find themselves, and within it, the biggest test of their relationship.
The Deepest Roots is, at its heart, a friendship story. I hope you, reader, have that kind of friendship in your life, be it with someone you met at school or a companion you were lucky enough to find within your own family like a sibling or a cousin. And if you haven’t found that kind of camaraderie, keep looking. It’s out there. In the meantime, you’re more than welcome to join Rome, Lux, and Mercy in Cottonwood Hollow.

Cottonwood Hollow, Kansas, is a strange place. For the past century, every girl has been born with a special talent, like the ability to Fix any object, Heal any wound, or Find what is missing.
Best friends Rome, Lux, and Mercy all have similar talents, but to them, their abilities often feel like a curse. Rome may be able to Fix anything she touches, but that won’t help her mom pay rent or make it any easier to confide in Lux and Mercy about what’s going on at home. And Rome isn’t the only one. Lux has been hiding bigger, more dangerous secrets.
As Rome struggles to keep her friendships close, she discovers the truth about Cottonwood Hollow — that friends are stronger than curses, that trust is worth the risk, and sometimes, what you’re looking for has been under your feet the whole time.
As an extra, exciting bonus, Miranda has been kind enough to offer one lucky reader the opportunity to win an advance reader copy of The Deepest Roots! This contest is open to U.S. residents only and the prize will be distributed once ARCs become available. Please fill out the Rafflecopter form below to enter!
