Top Ten Favourite Historical Romance Series Of All Time

Top Ten Tuesday is a regular feature on Pop! Goes The Reader in which I count down my top ten choices on a particular theme. This weekly event is hosted by Jamie at The Broke and the Bookish.

This week’s Top Ten Tuesday topic is: Top Ten Favourite Historical Romance Series Of All Time.

Today’s Top Ten Tuesday prompt – “Top Ten All Time Favourite Books Of X Genre” offered me a really wonderful opportunity to talk about something I don’t often have the chance to discuss on Pop! Goes The Reader: Historical romance! That’s right. Today, let’s talk about sex, baby. Let’s talk about you and me. (Someone please make me stop.)

All joking aside, for those of you who don’t know, there are few things I love to do more in my spare time than read adult romance, particularly that of the historical variety. I feel no shame or embarrassment about this. I need only point to articles like Anne Browning Walker’s Why Smart Women Read Romance Novels or Jenny Holiday’s Why I Read Romance Novels (And You Should Too) to perfectly encapsulate all I love about this genre of fiction. It’s smart, it’s sexy, it’s empowering, and damn it, it’s fun! So, without further ado, here are my top ten favourite historical romance series of all time!

As always, these choices are listed in no particular order.

1) Sweet Revenge by Zoe Archer (The Nemesis, Unlimited series)

2) The Madness Of Lord Ian Mackenzie by Jennifer Ashley (The Mackenzies & McBrides series)

3) Secrets Of A Summer Night by Lisa Kleypas (The Wallflowers series)

4) When You Give A Duke A Diamond by Shana Galen (The Jewels Of The Ton series)

5) The Duchess War by Courtney Milan (The Brothers Sinister series)

6) A Rogue By Any Other Name by Sarah MacLean (The The Rules Of Scoundrels series)

7) Romancing The Duke by Tessa Dare (The Castles Ever After series)

8) Firelight by Kristen Callihan (The Darkest London series)

9) How To Dance With A Duke by Manda Collins (The Ugly Ducklings series)

10) Nine Rules To Break When Romancing A Rake by Sarah MacLean (The Love By Numbers series)

Now it’s your turn! What are YOUR favourite historical romance series? Let me know in the comments – I would love to hear from you!

  1. Wallflowers are so good!! I’m sure there are others I really like (practically anything Eloisa James), but the one that pops up right away in my mind is the Bridgertons. Loveeee them. <3

  2. I’m OBSESSED with the Wallflowers series (and Lisa Kleypas in general)! I thought that series was such a fun celebration of romance AND friendship <3 And I also enjoyed the Love by Numbers trilogy a ton, because it made me laugh a lot!

  3. I am basically using this list as a to buy list. You are the blogger who managed to successfully convince me to read historical romance with your review of Romancing the Duke (although it took me a few months) and so I am fully convinced you will know what you’re talking about with these books. I’ve read a couple, I adore all Sarah MacLean ever, same goes for Tessa Dare and I am so excited for her new book. But outside of those two I’ve read none of these books, Courtney Milan has been left unread on my Kindle for some time, though and if only I knew why.
