Top Ten Tuesday is a regular feature on Pop! Goes The Reader in which I count down my top ten choices on a particular theme. This weekly event is hosted by Jamie at The Broke and the Bookish.
This week’s Top Ten Tuesday topic is: Top Ten Series And/Or Duologies I Started But Never Finished.
Today’s Top Ten Tuesday prompt was a ‘rewind’ in which bloggers were encouraged to explore or revisit a former topic, which meant that I was finally given the opportunity to talk about something that has always caused me a little secret shame. Because who doesn’t love a little public humiliation, right? Hi. My name’s Jen, and I’m a Series Abandoner.
You see, before I was a book blogger, my reading tastes and habits were very different than they are today. Not only did the majority of my reading consist of paranormal, science fiction and dystopian fiction, but I also had a nasty habit of starting every single series I could get my hands on. The only problem? I never actually got around to finishing them. What upsets me most about this to this day is how much I genuinely enjoyed many of the books listed in today’s Top Ten Tuesday post. I was enraptured by the feminist undertones in Jessica Spotswood’s Born Wicked, inspired by the creativity of Myra McEntire’s Hourglass, and swept away by the depth and complexity of the relationships in Veronica Rossi’s Under The Never Sky.
The majority of the series on today’s list are ones I am absolutely interested in completing one day. The only question is when. It has now been so long since I’ve read any of these books that I know I will have to re-read each before moving on their successors. In the world of book blogging, when it can often feel as though time is of the essence and re-reading is a ‘waste of time’ when there are so many new books being publishing every day (A manner of thinking I know is unhealthy and something I need to break myself of) I can’t help but feel guilty when I consider taking time out of my reading/reviewing schedule to revisit something I’ve already read once before.
P.S. As I was composing this post I thought of at least ten more series and/or duologies I started but never finished. The first step is admitting you have a problem, right?
As always, these choices are listed in no particular order.
1) The Arcana Chronicles by Kresley Cole
2) The Cahill Witch Chronicles by Jessica Spotswood
3) The Dark Unwinding Duology by Sharon Cameron
4) Under The Never Sky Series by Veronica Rossi
5) Shatter Me Series by Tahereh Mafi
6) The Mara Dyer Series by Michelle Hodkin
7) Defiance Series by C.J. Redwine
8) Something Strange And Deadly Series by Susan Dennard
9) The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer
10) Hourglass Series by Myra McEntire
Now it’s YOUR turn! If you could recommend I finish one of the series listed in today’s Top Ten Tuesday post, which would you choose and why? Let me know in the comments – I would love to hear from you!

You should really finish the Lunar Chronicles. It is in my top 5 favorite re-tellings/

I’m really bad at completing series. I did enjoy the Lunar Chronices and The Cahill Witch books too.
Ha ha! Series Abandoner 😀
I’m a series non-starter (unusual in these book blogging parts where other bloggers seem to love a series…). I put it down to my very short attention span.

I feel like all your choices came out in that crazy series time period right after The Hunger Games came out. It was like everything being published was a series!! And there was bound to be some misses in there with SO many being pushed through!

I actually have not finished any of these series (Nor started any, other than Mara Dyer) but I gotta pull for finishing Jess Spotswood’s because I adore her.
i never finished Shatter Me either. I dont plan on ever finishing that one actually ehehe/
You should totally finish The Lunar Chronicles! I read the last book in the series in July, and the entire series is spectacular. Hope that you get to finish some of these! 🙂

Ooooh I love this topic. I have a lot of these haha. Under the Never Sky and Mara Dyer are also a couple of mine as well.
I would recommend finishing the Mara Dyer series! Only because I’m SUPER biased and loved the books. 🙂

I haven’t finished SOMETHING STRANGE AND DEADLY or DEFIANCE or CINDER or BORN WICKED, but I own a bunch of books in each series (sometimes all the rest).
Loved HOURGLASS and UNDER THE NEVER SKY.
I read the first book in the Hourglass Series by Myra McEntire and loved it as well, but never continued with the series for an unknown reason. Though I cannot attest to the rest of the series, I say finish that one 🙂 I think I may just do the same!

Finish the Lunar Chronicles!!!
I adore that series (although I’m a book behind at the moment). I think it’s one which get better with each new installment. And Captain Throne? He’s oh… he’s just awesome.
Not sure i’d recommend you continue with Poison Princess. It’s sort of jumped the shark with me. I liked the start but now the more I think about it, the less I like where the story went.

I also have problem with finishing series haha! *hides together* You should finish Shatter Me, I think Ignite Me is really amazing (despite the ending). And it seems like I took too long to finish Under the Never Sky, because by the time I read the 2nd book, the connection I felt with the characters and world already lost 🙁 I also haven’t read the Retribution of Mara Dyer. The ending of the last book scared me too much!

The Under the Never Sky trilogy is amazing! I thought the second book was even better than the first, honestly.
I really need to finish The Cahill Chronicles series too, I loved the first book. Feminist historical fantasy for the win!

I have some of these on my TBR. I read Cinder, but I didn’t love it. I am going to read Scarlet though, because apparently the series gets better.

Definitely finished the Lunar Chronicles! SO good! I’ve A Court of Thorns and Roses and I’ve started the next book, but I still haven’t finished and it’s been two months. Yikes.

I really adore the Something Strange and Deadly series! It’s such a fascinating combination of genres, and the way it ends is really, really good too.
